The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This

As any significant honors show draws close, there’s always a demand for the addition additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
